The Care Advocate Team (CAT)

Your resource for health care information.

Aetna has created a team of specially trained nurses and pharmacists to provide one-on-one help and support for Verizon employees.  Through Aetna’s Care Advocate Team (CAT), you have a single point of contact for services ranging from answers to everyday health-related questions to help with medications, chronic disease management and hospitalizations.

Every question is important.
Maybe you or a family member has been diagnosed with a disease or condition you’d like to better understand.  Or you’d like to know more about a medication you’ve been prescribed and how it fits in with your overall treatment regimen.  Whatever your question or concern, you can ask CAT.  Your Care Advocate will give you answers and information you can understand and put to use.

CAT can talk to you about:

  • Treatment options for a variety of diseases and conditions
  • Tests, screenings, surgery and other procedures
  • Medications:  side effects, drug interactions, and generic equivalents
  • Chronic disease:  staying healthy, avoiding complications, and following treatment and medication regimens
  • Wellness:  disease prevention, diet and exercise tips
  • Hospitalization:  pre-admission counseling to discharge planning
  • Questions for your doctor, and how to understand medical terms
  • Community resources and support
  • Aetna special programs, services and online resources

CAT knows health care – and the health care system.
Today’s health care system is complex and sometimes difficult to navigate.  It can help to have someone on your side – someone who knows how the system works and how to make it work for you.  This is where CAT can help.

  • CAT can provide information and advice to help you make sense of your choices when you have an acute, chronic or complex medical condition.
  • CAT can coordinate your care and help you understand your benefits when you need to be hospitalized.
  • CAT can also put you in touch with services, resources and educational programs offered by your health plan as well as in your community.

When you have questions about health issues, concerns and care, CAT is there.  You can get information and advice about treatments, medications, follow-up care and the benefits, special programs and services available through your health plan.  Best of all, CAT can help you to put it all together and to learn how to make better health care choices and spend wisely.

CAT puts dedicated pharmacists to work for you.
CAT offers a unique service to Verizon employees – access to the advice and expertise of dedicated clinical pharmacists.  CAT pharmacists are experienced in health care delivery and management, and they work closely with your Care Advocate to help with prescription drug questions and concerns.  You can also talk directly with a CAT pharmacist to get information on drug alternatives, interactions, dosages, side effects and other topics important to you.
